Specialized care for inflammatory eye disease
Uveitis typically refers to a range of inflammatory diseases that affect the middle layer of the eye, called the uvea. However, in recent years, the definition of uveitis has been broadened to include inflammation of any internal eye structure, including the retina.
At Mass General Brigham, specialists in ocular immunology and uveitis bring together expertise in retina, cornea, immunology, and inflammatory eye disease to provide comprehensive, personalized care. Through advanced diagnostics, treatment planning, and ongoing research, our team works to protect vision and improve outcomes for people with complex immune-related eye conditions.
Mass Eye and Ear is recognized as a leader in eye care, ranked by U.S. News & World Report as one of the top ophthalmology hospitals in the nation.
Our approach to inflammatory eye disease
Although uveitis is a leading cause of blindness in the United States, vision loss can be prevented if the condition is diagnosed and treated early. However, patients with uveitis or diseases of the immune system may not be aware of their illness until it has progressed.
Our team works to identify the cause of inflammation, monitor changes closely, and create a care plan that helps reduce complications and protect long-term vision.
