As a mission-driven, integrated academic health care system, we pledge our steadfast commitment to our patients and our community. The U.S. health sector is responsible for approximately 8.5% of the nation’s greenhouse gas emissions, making climate action an urgent priority for organizations committed to improving human health. Just as access to food and housing is essential to human health, so are climate resiliency and environmental sustainability. Climate change is a public health crisis. At Mass General Brigham, we believe it is critical we treat it as one.
Given the urgency of the challenges posed by climate change, Mass General Brigham is applying its strengths in clinical care, education, research, and advocacy to make meaningful changes within the institution and beyond. Though we will not overcome these challenges in a day, or a year, we resolve to face the problem head-on, so that those we serve can live their best, healthiest lives.
