Chris Coburn

Chief Innovation Officer

Chris Coburn is Mass General Brigham’s Chief Innovation Officer, leading a team responsible for the commercial application of the unique capabilities of Mass General Brigham’s 85,000 employees. His 125-person business development group drives activities including strategic industry collaborations, innovator engagement, company creation, investing, translational development, commercial strategy, licensing, digital product commercialization, and innovation management.

Together they annually steward $150 million of revenue, 30 spin-offs, and nearly 300 licensing transactions. The venture investment arm has nearly $500 million under management. Its investment portfolio has received follow-on equity investment of $5 billion with 20 exits. Portfolio companies have 22 therapeutics in either Phase II or Phase III clinical trials.

Recent initiatives include an innovation framework to accelerate the creation and advancement of actionable innovation across the institutes and enterprise departments.

Chris is a member of the Mass Life Sciences Center Board of Directors among other companies.
