David F. M. Brown, MD

David F. M. Brown, MD, leads some of the most consequential work in academic medicine today. As President of Academic Medical Centers at Mass General Brigham, he oversees the clinical, research, academic, and philanthropic missions of two of the world’s most distinguished hospitals: Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH) and Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH). Under his leadership, and through the extraordinary commitment of thousands of physicians, clinicians, scientists, educators, administrative professionals, and support staff, these institutions are shaping the future of academic medicine, advancing care, discovery, and education with global impact.

Previously, Dr. Brown served as President of MGH (2021–2024), interim President and CEO of Cooley Dickinson Health Care, and Chair of Emergency Medicine at MGH (2013–2021), where he helped elevate the department’s national reputation for excellence in patient care and innovation.

A Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Princeton University, Dr. Brown earned his MD from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, where he was inducted into Alpha Omega Alpha. He completed his training at MGH and is board-certified in both Emergency Medicine and Internal Medicine. He is a fellow of the American College of Emergency Physicians and the American Academy of Emergency Medicine.

Dr. Brown is a widely respected physician, educator, and scholar. He has authored more than 250 peer-reviewed publications and book chapters, written two leading textbooks on cardiovascular emergencies, and served as the founding editor-in-chief of Scientific American: Emergency Medicine. His contributions to teaching and mentorship have earned him numerous awards from local, national, and international organizations.

When he’s not at the hospitals, Dr. Brown can be found playing cards and games with family and friends, grilling lamb lollipops at a Patriots tailgate, or (most commonly) chasing his grandson around the yard.
