Giles Boland, MD, is President of Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH) and Brigham and Women’s Physicians Organizations (BWPO), and Executive Vice President of Mass General Brigham. He is also the executive sponsor for International Patient Services (IPS) at Mass General Brigham. He is a radiologist by training and is the Philip H. Cook Distinguished Professor of Radiology at Harvard Medical School (HMS) primary teaching hospitals for HMS. Along with the executive leadership team, he is responsible for ensuring optimal patient outcomes and the delivery of compassionate care to every patient that BWH serves from across the country and the globe.

Dr. Boland leads the BWPO, a faculty practice of approximately 1,900 physicians, serving as a united voice for its members, working to improve physician wellbeing and professional fulfillment, and maintain organizational financial health.

As Executive Vice President of Mass General Brigham, Dr. Boland helps set and guide strategy, priorities, and performance for the system. He also serves as the executive leader of IPS, a systemwide initiative to provide leading clinical care to patients from around the world, working to ensure that they can connect with disease-focused experts in a caring and culturally appropriate setting.

Dr. Boland’s focus is on the delivery of cost-effective, high-quality patient care, which drives his prioritization of practice and workflow redesign and management, quality and safety, effective leadership, information technology (especially that which improves outcomes), the patient experience, patient and employee wellness, the development of new markets and system integration. He has written numerous peer-reviewed articles on these topics and has conducted over 300 national and international presentations on these and other issues.

Dr. Boland received his medical degree at the London Hospital Medical College, London University, and is board certified in both Internal Medicine and Radiology. He completed his residency at Guy’s Hospital, London. In 1992, he began his fellowship in Radiology at Massachusetts General Hospital and joined the faculty in 1994 before moving to BWH as chair of Radiology in 2016. He became President of the BWPO September 1, 2020, and President of BWH in March 2024. He is the past President of the Society of Abdominal Radiology.
