Other ways to give

Making a bequest or other planned gift to the hospital is a smart way to make a tax-efficient gift. A gift in the future – through a bequest or life income gift – may allow you to give more and ensure the hospital can continue to be a center of health and wellness for future generations.

Donor advised funds

Donor Advised Funds are an increasingly popular way to make a charitable gift and can provide you with immediate tax benefits while simplifying your charitable giving.

Contributions are tax-deductible and your investments in a DAF can appreciate tax free. You receive an immediate income tax deduction in the year you contribute to your DAF. Additionally, your DAF will not be subject to estate taxes. With a DAF, you get both tax benefits and the flexibility to recommend gift amount and frequency to your favorite nonprofits like Nantucket Cottage Hospital.

Here are two simple ways you can support Nantucket Cottage Hospital through a DAF - you can select the option that best suits your philanthropic and financial goals.

IRA

You can use your individual retirement account (IRA) to make a difference at Nantucket Cottage Hospital. It’s easy and might save you on taxes. Also known as a Qualified Charitable Distribution, this is a tax-wise way to support Nantucket Cottage Hospital.

• You must be 70½ years or older at the time of the gift.
  • For federal tax purposes, exclude those funds from your gross income.
• Your gift must go directly from your traditional IRA or Roth IRA to Nantucket Cottage Hospital
  • It will count toward your required minimum distribution this year
• A gift cannot exceed $100,000 per taxpayer

Memorial and tribute gifts

Memorial Gifts

Memorial gifts to remember a loved one or cherished friend are greatly appreciated. For those who treasured their time on Nantucket, these are especially meaningful gifts.

Many families choose to ask that charitable gifts be made in memory of their loved one in lieu of flowers. The online gift form provides a place to indicate who the gift remembers, or gifts can be mailed to Nantucket Cottage Hospital with a note that it is in memory of the individual.

Foundation staff can assist families in establishing memorial gifts and the appropriate language for an obituary. Or a family can include a simple statement in an obituary such as: In lieu of flowers, the family requests that be memorial gifts be made to Nantucket Cottage Hospital. Tribute Gifts

Tributes – a gift in honor of someone – not only support the hospital, but often provide unexpected joy and recognition to the individual they honor. They may be gift in honor of a special occasion, to recognize extraordinary care, or to indicate your respect for a volunteer or caregiver.

We will notify the honoree(s) of your gift, and forward any special message that you would like to convey. We will notify the family or person you specify of memorial gifts, though we will not share the amount of the donations.

Securities

Donating gifts of securities—appreciated stocks, bonds, mutual funds—as well as other property, will benefit Nantucket Cottage Hospital. At the same time, donating gifts of stock can offer you many benefits. As with every gift, your generosity will have a powerful impact.

Gifts of stock and other securities typically entitle a donor to a federal income tax charitable deduction and capital gains tax savings for securities owned for at least a year. We encourage you to consult your own advisors to discuss your gift plans and tax implications.

Please send notification of your donation via mail, fax, or e-mail to the address listed below. Stock donations require additional communication from the donor that includes their identity, the name and quantity of securities, as well as what their gift is intended to support at NCH.

In accordance with IRS guidelines, the date of gift will be considered the date that NCH assumes ownership of the shares. For crediting purposes, the value is determined as the average of the high and low listings on the date the stock is gifted.

DELIVERY BY U.S. MAIL/FEDEX/UPS

To donate a physical stock certificate, mail the unendorsed certificate(s) to UBS at the address above with a letter of instruction that specifies Nantucket Cottage Hospital as the recipient and outlines the details of the contribution, as well as any particular designation. Under separate cover, send a copy of this letter and a signed (but otherwise blank) Stock Power form for each certificate, making sure the signature corresponds exactly with the name as it appears on the face of the stock certificate. Mail all documents to the address below. The date of the gift will be determined by the later postmark of the two envelopes. Certificates may also be hand-delivered to the NCH Foundation Office at the address below. Please note that it is unnecessary to have certificates registered in the Hospital’s name.
