• It has been a pleasure as a patient of Dr. Jeffrey Barnes for the past five years. Not only did he steer me to complete remission of my Lymphoma, but was always willing to answer questions and to support me when needed.

• I have never ever in my personal medical journey; which has been notable, have I ever been asked by a provider about myself, beyond the medicine. He asked me what I like to do, what brings be joy, he invited me to tell him who I am beyond my diagnosis. He saw me as a human being, and that made his reassurance reliable and valid in my humble non-scientific opinion. I felt comforted, informed and confident at the end of my appointment.

• It has always been my privilege to have Dr. Barnes as my oncologist. He is thorough, considerate and willing to thoughtfully answer any questions I ask him. I appreciate his reviewing my scans in great detail so that I can leave my appointment with him feeling fully informed. As an aside, I do not think that MGB should focus so much on the amount of time an oncologist spends with his/her patient. Some patients need more time, especially when facing a cancer diagnosis. As a patient who is fortunate enough to fall in the category of "cured," I would happily wait for Dr Barnes while he gives his time to those who really need him in the kind of way I once did. When I was first diagnosed, I could not even hear what he said to absorb the meaning of his words because I was in such a state of shock that I needed him to repeat everything at least twice. Even then, I needed someone with me to write it down. Dr. Barnes saved my life, and so I can say unequivocally, I love Dr. Barnes.

• I was very pleased with my visit with Dr. Barnes, whom I was seeing for the first time. He introduced himself and told me a bit of his background. He had already reviewed aspects of my medical history pertinent to my current diagnosis, and asked me many pertinent questions. He gave me a great deal of information relating to the lab tests I'd had recently, and what their results might indicate. He also gave me a lot of information about new tests he felt were indicated, and what their results might reveal. Throughout, he was encouraging and reassuring in terms of what the findings might or might not be. I had plenty of time to express what my goals were for the appointment , and ask to questions about what he presented to me. He was careful to define any terms he felt might be unfamiliar to me. I went to the lab after leaving the appointment. When he phoned me later in the day to talk about results that were already available, I was amazed and impressed. I liked that he referred to himself as Jeff Barnes (not "Dr Barnes") twice. It's a small detail, but telling, in my view. I'm grateful that I was referred to this practice, and will see him again for follow up.
