Liliana Bordeianou, MD, MPH, is a board-certified colorectal surgeon and a board certified general surgeon. She is a Professor of Surgery at Harvard Medical School. At the Massachusetts General Hospital, she directs MGH Colorectal Surgery and chairs the Pelvic Floor Disorders Center . At the Mass General Brigham , she serves as the Co-Chair of the MGB Colorectal Surgery Collaborative.
Dr. Bordeianou specializes in treating a broad range of colorectal conditions that include Rectal Cancer, Colon Cancer, Crohn's disease, Ulcerative Colitis, Diverticulitis, Rectal Prolapse , and Pelvic Floor Disorders. She is skilled in a wide range of techniques that allow for a choice for the best minimally invasive approaches needed to address specific surgical challenges, including: robotic and laparoscopic surgery, transanal endoscopic microsurgery (TEM) and transanal minimally invasive surgery (TAMIS). She is also is an expert in performing open surgery for complex redo surgical procedures that require time, patience, precision and experience. She has a special interest in sphincter preservation techniques for low lying rectal cancer and for patients with Inflammatory Bowel Disease. She is an international expert in the field of sphincter preservation, ileoanal J pouch reconstruction, rectal prolapse and pelvic floor reconstruction .
Dr. Bordeianou performs research on topics related to patient quality of life, restoration of bowel function and preservation of dignity after colorectal surgery. She has published extensively in academic research journals on these important topics, and lectures nationally and internationally. She is a champion for colorectal surgery quality, and received numerous awards , including the Nathanial Bowditch Award . Nationally, she serves as the Associate Examiner on the American Board of Colon and Rectal Surgery; as an Associate Editor of the Diseases of Colon and Rectum Journal, and on the Executive Council of the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons.

Liliana was able to make me comfortable in what was a very uncomfortable discussion for me. She was respectful, compassionate, professional and technically skilled and very knowledgeable. I left feeling my issue was properly diagnosed and could be managed such that it would no longer effective my physical and emotional quality of life. I have had complex issues for many years, and when she was recommended to me, at first I hesitated because I live in Western Mass. and did not want to have to travel to Boston. I was 100 % pleased with my nurse and doctor. They addressed all my concerns. The procedure was much better than expected, it was much lower pain than expected and I have had the procedure done several times before by different doctors. My nurse and doctor gave me good advice on what to be cautious of following the procedure.

Dr Bordeianou is caring and kind as well as an excellent doctor. But I traveled far to see her and I was surprised when the nurse said I didn't need to see her. The nurse examined me and made the diagnosis and told me what I needed to do next. There was even an indication that Dr Bordeianou would not do the surgery.
