Dr. Burak is an endocrinologist and faculty member, leading translational immunometabolism research group at Brigham and Women’s Hospital / Harvard Medical School and basic science researcher at Harvard Chan School of Public Health (HSPH), Department of Molecular Metabolism. His research mainly focused on the role of adipose tissue-derived molecules in obesity and development of new therapeutic strategies in obesity-related immunometabolic diseases such as diabetes, fatty liver disease, and asthma.
He contributed to obesity and immunometabolism field with high impact publications (Science Translational Medicine, JCEM, Cell Metabolism, Nature Drug Discovery, Nature Endocrinology), invited book chapter on ‘Drug mechanism of actions in obesity’ and has licensed U.S patents in drug discovery metabolism field.
He received many prestigious awards including Early Investigators Award of The Endocrine Society, United Nations (UN) Top Outstanding Young Persons of the World (TOYP) 2016 medical innovation and scientific development category Turkish chapter winner, Translational Tersus Life Sciences Grant ($2.5M), Charles A. King-Bank of America Trust Postdoctoral Fellowship award, American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists (AACE) 2018 Young Investigator award, American College of Physicians (ACP) 2020 National abstract winner, Massachusetts best research project of 2016, International Expert Panel Member of UK Asthma/British Lung Association, Dubai Harvard Foundation Inaugural Fellowship, Obesity Research Center P30 NIH grant, European Association for the Study of Diabetes (EASD) young scientist grant award, Discover Brigham Research Excellence Award, Harvard Obesity-CVD Incubator best project award.
He is triple board certified in Internal Medicine and Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism (ABIM) and Obesity Medicine (ABOM). His clinical practice focuses on obesity, diabetes, parathyroid disorders and immunometabolism. Additionally, he was appointed to MassHealth Drug Utilization Review board as the endocrinologist by the governor of MA.
