He initiated a discussion so that I could add detail as I have a complicated hx where orthopedic amd neurologic issues have some overlapping symptoms and present diagnostic and treatment planning questions. He did a thorough physical exam. His conclusions and recommendations were comprehensive and reflect a true understanding of the complexity. In addition, he is incredibly kind, clearly understanding my fears that acute treatable issues can become chronic and debilitating without appropriate care. He is a gift to patients.

Many providers have asked if I have questions, yet this was one of the few times I genuinely didn't feel rushed. • I was impressed with his prep work to begin with. I am quite complex, and he'd done some reading beforehand. This helped us have a smoother visit! But what really stood out was his acceptance of a mask. He said, "I see you're wearing a mask. Would you like for me to wear one as well?" This is always what I hope for, but to be honest, even if I hear it, the result doesn't mean much. Unless you're going to wear one that actually offers protection, it's for show and patient's mental comfort. So I said, "Thank you, I would, but unless you have a similar one, there's not much point". Usually they just put surgical masks on, but he and the MA did not do this. She began to search for an N95, and I was truly impressed and shocked! I produced a new, sealed one from my bag just as she found one, and he accepted. No drama, no comments. THIS is what makes for exceptional care! As for the visit, he also understood the profound impact that ADHD has on sleep, and agreed that it's truly a challenge. This went a LONG way with me. He even added that you have a specialty clinic, but I lamented that I couldn't get into Psychiatry because I didn't have a PCP at MGB. He encouraged me to check across the hall, but we knew there were no openings. I get it, but again, this policy is hurting people! We went through all of the important things, and I was scheduled right there for my next annual follow-up. Great!

• This just concerns a minor refinement of Dr. Cano's appointment technique. While my conversation with him was highly informative in a number of ways, clarifying several issues I'd been concerned about, I often felt that he was explaining things more slowly and simply than I personally required. I wonder whether he might develop a few innocent-seeming, unobtrusive small-talk conversational gambits for the start of an appointment, to aid him in forming an idea of the patient's level of intellectual sophistication, to in turn aid him in adjusting upward or downward the speed and complexity of his medical remarks.

Before seeing him, I had an emergency visit to have a pacemaker inserted and he involved that in the explanation of my symptoms that were now relieved. Dr. Cano related the findings of the orthopedic surgeon and the surgeon's decisions that operating was not an option and why. Dr. Cano was extremely thorough in his discussions of all the different factors affecting my present condition and thoroughly explained how the final decisions were reached. Dr. Cano gave me an overall picture of what had transpired and why various decisions were made. This was a great overall picture that helped me see where I am today. • Dr Cano ranks among the best physicians that I have ever been to. He reviewed all my pertinent medical records prior to the consult and was thoroughly prepared. His knowledge of neurology is extensive and indepth. Dr Cano has the distinct ability to listen, isolate the key issues, focus on those key issues, formulate a medical plan and then thoroughly explain his recommendations in clear language. He explanations and recommendations were thorough and easy to understand. He listened carefully to all my questions and addressed in detail all my concerns. • Dr. Cano is one of the best physicians that I have ever seen!!! He is just wonderful and knows neurology like no one else. I first saw him for my severe Restless Legs. He knew exactly what I needed to do and I feel like he saved my life. I do exactly what he suggests and I have NO restless legs. PS: He is also a really nice guy and cares about me. Last week, he correctly diagnosed and suggested treatment for a severe eye itchy, gritty eye problem. BINGO I did what he said and my eyes are without pain, for the first time in 6 months. I have to drive 3 hours to see him. He is well worth the drive. BRILLIANT DOCTOR
