Dr. Onuchic-Whitford is the Director of the Kidney Genetics & PKD Clinic at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. She received her medical degree from the University of São Paulo in Brazil, where she also completed residency in Internal Medicine. She repeated Internal Medicine residency at the University of Connecticut, followed by clinical fellowship in adult nephrology in the joint Brigham and Women's Hospital / Massachusetts General Hospital program.
Dr. Onuchic-Whitford's clinical practice is focused on genetic kidney diseases, including polycystic kidney disease, Alport Syndrome, thin basement membrane nephropathy, genetic FSGS (focal and segmental glomerulosclerosis), and congenital anomalies of the kidney and urinary tract (CAKUT), among many other inherited/familial kidney disorders.
From a research standpoint, Dr. Onuchic-Whitford is interested in searching for genetic determinants of kidney diseases. During her postdoctoral research fellowship at Boston Children’s Hospital, she studied the genetics of nephrotic syndrome and chronic kidney disease of unknown etiology. Her current research in computational genomics aims to identify mechanisms of gene regulation that can contribute to kidney disease.

Dr Ana Whitford adjusted her schedule to see me, as I live in Florida and had a previous scheduled appointment at [redacted]. I really appreciate Dr. Whitford understanding and flexibility. She spent a great deal of time explaining the condition of my kidneys, understanding my history and my family history of Al Port Syndrome. She order extensive tests to better provide with the best possible diagnosis and treatment. Dr. Whitford is also extremely knowledgeable about my condition. If I can be direct I would say she is the best kidney Dr. I have ever seen and she is definitely a " keeper". BWH is very fortunate to have her on their staff Thank you, [redacted]

I am so lucky to have Dr. Onuchic Whitford as my Doc. I needed to speak to her while I was in Egypt regarding medication I was given by an Egyptian doctor. It was hard reaching me but she never gave up. While on the phone with her she looked up the medication which was foreign to her but she found it and advised me correctly. She is caring and so dedicated to me and I am sure all her patients.
