• This is a new doctor, replacing my previous doctor in the unit. I have a very good impression of him, but I am not sure whether he has a reasonably full picture of me, although I think he will gain this with time. It may be that the modern arrangement of short visits, even for an annual one, is unfortunate, especially in the case of a new patient. There was not time for me to bring up all the questions I had, but I should emphasize that the doctor thought and listened carefully to what was discussed, including my end of life questions. His understanding and recommendations seemed good, and he gave me extra time. To be handed a questionnaire on the latter subject is not encouraging, as if the doctor knew he would forget some important things and would do best to file them away in a memory safe. The important thing is whether doctors in an emergency (e.g. Emergency room) will as a matter of course draw on my instructions.

• Yes, Dr. Marcondes is a very good and thoughtful doctor. He is very thorough. He knew what my issue was going into our meeting due to x-rays that were taken before the meeting. He was aware of medications that I was taking. He did a partial physical exam because I had a fall. So he looked at my lower back, my hip, and a knee that I had had replaced at Mass General in [redacted]. He was incredibly thorough. And we talked about how to manage the pain, what medications, and then he also indicated, which I was glad to hear, that should the lower back and hip pain linger for maybe about another two weeks, that I should check back at the office.

In the course of this visit Dr. Marcondes acted on an issue he identified on my exam as well as the primary focus of my visit. Dr. Marcondes also instructed me on dealing with a problem and established a way to follow the effects of the plan.
