• Dr. Todd O'Brien is the real deal. After getting a frustratingly vague read from the radiologist, I was worried I'd be stuck with a diagnosis that didn't quite fit what I was feeling. Dr. O'Brien took the time to actually study my X-rays and MRI himself, and he caught something the radiologist's report had missed entirely - frozen shoulder linked to menopausal changes. What really stood out was how seen he made me feel. When I mentioned the connection to menopause, he didn't brush past it - [redacted] As a woman navigating the confusing overlap of hormones and joint pain, that kind of acknowledgment means everything. It's rare to find a doctor who's both this sharp clinically and this genuinely tuned in to what women go through. If you're dealing with a shoulder issue that doesn't add up, especially if you're in perimenopause or menopause, I'd highly recommend seeing Dr. O'Brien. He's thorough, honest, and he actually listens.

• I have been to a few Orthopedic Doctors in search for resolutions to my shoulder pain. Dr. Todd O'Brien was by far the most informative presenting a number options & follow-up recommendations. I would highly recommend him.

• The check-in was not great. I was in line waiting and there were other pts not standing in line who arrived after I did who were checked in before me. There are two receptionists - neither was there when I arrived. I waited about 5 minutes and one came in - so I moved over to stand in front of her. Apparently there was another pt who had started check-in and was given paperwork to complete, sitting behind me. When I stepped up to the window, the receptionist looked past me and asked the other person if they were finished and to come up to the window. That's fine - same as when you're at the post office - just wait in line once - but then another receptionist came out and sat down - and he called over the pt who had come in after me and was standing further back than me and not in line. I looked over a little surprised - and the person called over looked a little surprised - I didn't say 'I was next' but it was frustrating that the receptionist whose line I was in didn't mention 'actually this lady was here first'. Since I arrive at appts early I was still on time for my appt - but it was frustrating. Also - my mom came to this practice about 5 years ago, also to see Dr. O'Brien, and we had the same kind of experience. There was often not staff the window when we arrived, check-in was always slow (she had and now I have lots of appts so the number of check-in's we have is a good number for comparison) and the process usually seems more cumbersome than other offices. I realize ortho can be different - the need for most recent X-rays, specific types of x-rays - in the instance of my visit the other pt who was being checked in was being told they needed new X-rays bc the weren't standing for the ones on file - the pt was in a wheelchair - muscle wasting in legs - clearly could not stand as opposed to just maybe not being able to walk distances - and the person with this pt said with a bit of disbelief in their voice 'he can't stand or walk'. The receptionist said - oh - ok - but it was a pretty insensitive/unaware interaction. I think there is room for improvement on many levels - perhaps a sign saying 'line forms here' and a 'pts who have begun check-in may be called back prior to your being checked in' and something about the process may seem cumbersome - orthopedic visits often include frequently updated imaging so it may seem as though your or others' check-in is taking longer than that of other physicians you see. I realize that's a lot - but information helps people tolerate process when it feels different. I realize this has been wordy - so thank you for reading to the end. The care team here is phenomenal - it would go miles if the check-in matched that.

• Hi there. Dr. O'Brien put me completely at ease, letting me know that my shoulder replacement wasn't as urgent as I thought it was, and that the recovery was much easier than the anatomical one. The reversal is much easier than the anatomical, which made me very happy and very surprised. And we're scheduling it down the road.

He is the first provider to bring up perimenopause to me first, without me feeling like I need to educate the provider and insist it's what I'm going through.
