• Dr. Smith's approach with me allowed me to start the visit by asking what I needed or understood about where my case stood. This is in contrast to telling me things that I already knew. I think this is a bit unorthodox compared to most practitioners, but really effective in my case.

• I think Dr. Smith is a very intelligent person who fortunately prescribed the right procedures for me. I had, I guess, a serious prostate cancer problem and with the procedure that he recommended, I had 40 radiation treatments and it worked. My PSA levels went from as high as 32 down to less than 0.1. So I think that's a fantastic success rate and I'm very fortunate to have been treated by Dr. Smith.

We were discussing the fact that my cancer isn't responding to treatment, that my future options are limited, and that I'm basically dying-in short, a difficult conversation for both of us, but necessary. I explained from the start that I appreciate clear, direct advice, not mollycoddling, and he responded in kind with a frank AND caring conversation about my current status, and how to navigate possible further treatment options. I found his approach extremely helpful in coming to terms with my prognosis and how to move forward. Hard to imagine a better conversation under those difficult circumstances. I fully appreciated his expertise, professionalism, caring, and candor.
