Vinayak Venkataraman, MD

Vinayak is a Princeton-trained engineer and Duke- and Harvard-trained physician, board-certified in Medical Oncology, Internal Medicine, and Pediatrics, and Instructor in Medicine at Harvard Medical School. He is a leader in adolescent and young adult (AYA) cancer care and an expert in bone and soft tissue sarcomas, serving as the Adult Medical Oncology Director of the AYA Cancer Program and a Physician in the Sarcoma and Musculoskeletal Oncology Program at Mass General Brigham Cancer Institute (MGBCI).

Drawing on his Med-Peds training at Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard Medical School and fellowship training at Dana-Farber/Mass General Brigham, Vinayak strives to care for patients and families facing cancer as he would his own — with compassion, thoughtfulness, shared decision-making, and multidisciplinary teamwork that addresses their medical, developmental, emotional, and socioeconomic needs.

His career mission is to improve access, care, and outcomes of AYAs facing cancer and vision is that every AYA with cancer has access to the best care and research regardless of where they live, who they are, how old they are, and where they seek care. He is working with leadership partners at MGBCI to establish a premier national model of longitudinal AYA care and research.

Prior to joining MGBCI, Vinayak was a medical oncologist in the Sarcoma Center at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, where he served as Director of Sarcoma Pathways. His clinical and academic interests reflect his broader passion for combining medicine, engineering, human-centered design, and innovation to improve care for people facing cancer, with focus in AYAs and rare cancers.

Born and raised in Rochester, NY, Vinayak is a proud Western New York native and Buffalo Bills fan. Outside of medicine, he enjoys creative and reflective writing, tennis, long-distance running, gardening, and spending time with his physician wife and family.
