Multidisciplinary approach
Our radiation oncologists work closely with medical oncologists and surgical oncologists who specialize in the same type of cancer. They also work with medical physicists and dosimetrists who help design radiation treatment to ensure it is safe and accurate. This team-based approach sets the Mass General Brigham Cancer Institute apart from most other cancer centers.
Advanced radiation therapies
Mass General Brigham Cancer Institute is a recognized leader in the development and delivery of innovative radiation treatments and techniques, including proton therapy. Our expert Radiation Oncology team uses the latest technologies to precisely target tumors and protect healthy tissue.
State-of-the-art equipment

You have access to the most up-to-date equipment, including:

  • Adaptive radiotherapy units
  • High-dose and low-dose brachytherapy treatment units
  • Photon linear accelerators (linacs)
  • MRI-guided linear accelerator
  • Mobile electron linear accelerators that may be used in the operating room for intraoperative radiation therapy (IORT)
  • 4D CT and MRI scanners for treatment planning
  • Surface imaging systems

We perform daily, monthly, and annual checks on all our equipment to ensure its safety and accuracy.

Supportive care programs for radiation oncology patients
We offer a wide range of supportive services to care for your whole well-being during treatment. These include relaxation programs, such as art and music therapy, as well as practical support, like help with transportation. Licensed Child Life Specialists and Social Workers can help recommend services for our patients and their families.

Radiation oncology research and clinical trials

We’re one of the world’s leading cancer research centers, working to continually bring you the latest discoveries. Our physicians, physician-scientists, biologists, and physicists are among the most active, visionary investigators in developing next-generation radiation therapies.

We lead many of the country’s clinical trials and have special staff who help patients learn about and enroll in clinical trials.
