Our Mission

Mass General Brigham is an integrated academic healthcare system with a four-part mission: patient care, research, education, and community.

As an integrated academic health care system, we connect world-class hospitals, community health centers, and specialized institutes. Through this model, we combine our clinical expertise, research, education, and community engagement to solve large-scale health challenges — supporting individual patients while advancing healthcare innovation.

Patient Care

We offer comprehensive, expert clinical care for every patient across a range of settings, from academic medical centers to community hospitals and home-based care. Guided by our For Every Patient strategy, we aim to deliver the very best outcomes and experience for our patients – from primary care to advanced specialized care.

Research and Discovery

We are built on a legacy of discovery and innovation. Our patients benefit from life-changing research that pushes the boundaries of science. Our $2 billion annual research investment supports 3,700+ ongoing clinical trials that bring our patients the very latest innovations in care.

Teaching and Education

We are teaching the healers of tomorrow, with 2,500+ trainees in more than 300 accredited physician residency and fellowship programs. We also invest heavily in workforce education, enrichment, and development to expand opportunities and promote excellence in the workplace.

Community

We are committed to making measurable, sustainable improvements in health outcomes for the communities we serve. In collaboration with community-based partners, we focus on the root causes of health disparities including heart health, substance use disorder, cancer, and maternal-child health. Each year, we invest hundreds of millions of dollars to support community health.
