  • Trailblazing discovery and innovation: Mass General Brigham, ranked #1 in hospital medical research in the U.S., is pushing the boundaries to develop and utilize the most advanced cancer treatments and technologies.
  • Research-driven care: With hundreds of researchers and more than 1,000 clinical trials annually, we support an active research community that is shaping advancements in cancer care.
  • Care from prevention to survivorship: Our approach covers the full spectrum of patient needs before, during, and after treatment. We apply evidence-based strategies to improve well-being and outcomes, supporting patients and their families throughout their cancer journey.
  • Equity in cancer care: We are working to eliminate disparities and provide equitable access to cancer care and clinical research for all the communities we serve.

Massachusetts General Hospital and Brigham and Women’s Hospital, founding members of Mass General Brigham, are ranked by U.S. News & World Report as two of the nation's best hospitals for cancer care.

Accelerating the future of cancer research

Mass General Brigham Cancer Institute is at the forefront of cancer research, leading to the advancement of new therapies. With clinicians and researchers working together, we’re making breakthroughs in areas like immunotherapy, AI, and personalized medicine.

As one of the nation’s leading cancer research enterprises, we conduct more than 1,000 active clinical trials each year and receive over $443 million in annual cancer research funding. Our discoveries transform science breakthroughs directly into care.

We’re advancing cancer treatment in key areas:

  • Cellular therapy: We’re driving the evolution of immunotherapy. Our researchers achieved FDA approval for tumor-infiltrating lymphocyte (TIL) therapy to treat advanced melanoma, and they’re uncovering the promise of CAR T-cell therapy for glioblastoma, one of the most challenging cancers to treat.
  • Artificial intelligence: AI has the potential to better detect side effects, identify biomarkers for lung cancer, and enhance how doctors talk to their patients about symptoms. We’re leading the way in AI-driven cancer care through innovative projects powered by large language models.
  • Treatment after cancer surgery: Our researchers helped develop a breakthrough blood test that identifies any cancer cells remaining after surgery, offering faster and more precise treatment.

  • Hale Building: Renovations to the Hale Building at our Brigham and Women’s Hospital campus will give us three floors dedicated to treating cancer, with infusion and multidisciplinary capabilities.
  • Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital: We are working on renovations to the fourth floor, which will include an infusion unit and multidisciplinary ambulatory clinics.
  • Herb Chambers Tower: Located within the Phillip and Susan Ragon building at our Massachusetts General Hospital campus, this new space will be operational by 2027. The tower will include four inpatient floors and 60 exam rooms dedicated to cancer care services, along with 56 infusion chairs and a 24/7 oncology observation unit.
