About the center
At the Addiction Treatment Center at Naukeag, we know that addiction to alcohol, opiates, and other substances is a complex mental health condition, one that is often accompanied by other symptoms and conditions.
We are dedicated to helping adults recover from substance use disorders and other coexisting mental health conditions like depression and anxiety.

Located on McLean Hospital’s historic Belmont campus, our insurance-based program provides compassionate, around-the-clock residential care to those who may be struggling with a substance use disorder, with or without other mental health diagnoses.
The Addiction Treatment Center at Naukeag is ideal for adults who:

Treatment approach
Starting on the day of admission, our board-certified, Harvard-affiliated psychiatrists work directly with all patients, ensuring thorough evaluation and top-notch medication treatment. Our highly-skilled clinicians and support staff provide exceptional care for individuals addicted to drugs and/or alcohol, with or without other coexisting mental health conditions.
Care at Naukeag focuses on group and individual therapy, as well as medication consultations as may be appropriate. We utilize behavioral therapies such as cognitive behavior therapy and integrated group therapy. We stress the importance of attending to individual’s needs in the context of trauma-informed care.
At Naukeag, we recognize the importance of building a sense of community in recovery and provide ample opportunities for patients to engage in a variety of peer recovery activities.

Prior to admission, we review an individual’s referral application to determine whether the program is a good fit for the individual.
Cost
McLean accepts Medicare, Massachusetts Medicaid, and many private insurance and managed care plans. Insurance coverage may be limited for some services, especially for longer-term residential treatment.

Located on McLean’s main campus in Belmont, MA, the Addiction Treatment Center at Naukeag offers a serene setting that allows patients the opportunity to focus on treatment and recovery.
Accommodations at Naukeag include comfortable bedrooms and common areas with ample room for both group therapy and leisure time.
Frequently asked questions
At Naukeag, we address tobacco use as a substance use disorder and encourage patients to quit. Nicotine cessation treatment, including medications and behavioral interventions, is available.
Tobacco products are not allowed inside the buildings, though there is one designated smoking area outside. Cigars, chewing tobacco, and e-cigarettes are not allowed on the premises.
Visitors are permitted, following program policies. Visiting hours are 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., seven days a week, however, we recommend calling in advance to confirm that the individual you are visiting is available at that time.
