Our approach to gynecologic cancer care

We offer expert, comprehensive care that provides access to a broad range of gynecologic cancer specialists.
Expert diagnostic testing
Our radiologists and pathologists focus exclusively on diagnosing and treating gynecologic cancers. This level of specialization means we can provide more accurate diagnoses and more effectively plan your treatment. As a leader in cancer research, our diagnostic testing reflects the latest advancements in the field.
Collaborative care team

Your team works together throughout your treatment to support every aspect of your health. In addition to gynecologic oncologists and nurses, you may also receive care from:

  • Geneticists
  • Infertility and reproductive medicine specialists
  • Medical oncologists
  • Radiation oncologists
  • Palliative care specialists
  • Pathologists
  • Diagnostic and interventional radiologists
  • Sexual health specialists
  • Psychologists
  • Nutritionists
  • Clinical social workers
  • Spiritual support (e.g., ministers, priests, rabbis)
  • Physician assistants
Minimally invasive surgery

Our surgical gynecologic oncologists use minimally invasive surgery whenever possible to deliver highly effective treatment. These approaches also help our patients have:

  • Shorter recovery with less pain
  • Lower risks of complications, including impact on fertility
  • Shorter hospital stays
Leading-edge radiation therapy

Radiation therapy for gynecologic cancers requires precision and skill to minimize impact on a person’s sexual, bowel, and bladder functioning. Our radiation oncologists are nationally recognized for their clinical care and specialized expertise.

We offer the latest radiation therapy treatments, including Intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) and volumetric-modulated arc therapy.

Additionally, we are the only center in New England offering proton therapy. Proton therapy is a type of radiation therapy treatment that uses proton beams instead of X-rays to destroy cancer cells. Proton therapy is even more precise and has less impact on surrounding healthy tissue.

We also offer MRI and CT-guided brachytherapy, a sophisticated form of radiation where cancer cells are killed by placing the radiation directly inside the tumor, which can further protect nearby organs.

Trusted care for HPV-related diseases
Our HPV Disease Center has cared for patients for more than 20 years. We treat and manage HPV- related pre-invasive lesions and cancers of the cervix, vagina, and vulva.
Unique expertise in rare gestational conditions
Our New England Trophoblastic Disease Center is one of only two centers in the United States specializing in gestational trophoblastic diseases, rare group of benign conditions that arise from abnormal fertilizations events (molar pregnancies) or cancers that arise from the placenta.
Promising new cancer treatments
Our gynecologic oncology clinical trials program is one of the most active in the United States. We bring promising new treatment advances directly from our laboratories to our clinics and hospitals. Our mission is to advance gynecologic cancer care and give more patients access to the best treatments available.

Our cancer specialists

At every step, your care is guided by a multidisciplinary team of cancer specialists. This may include medical, surgical, and radiation oncology physicians, advanced practice providers, radiologists, pathologists, oncology nurses, nurse navigators, and more. You may also work with dietitians, genetic counselors, social workers, and mental health professionals.
