Compassionate, expert care for children with heart disease
Heart disease in children may be discovered during pregnancy, present at birth or develop over time, which is why they need specialized, ongoing care.
We offer state-of-the-art tests that can detect heart problems early, sometimes while your baby is still in the womb. Our team’s expertise in minimally invasive heart procedures, pediatric heart surgery, lipid disorders, and preventive cardiology helps protect your child’s heart health.

Our approach to your child’s heart care
Our extensive heart services for children include:
- Child life specialists who use child-friendly language and approaches to help your child understand their diagnosis and procedures
- Collaborative care with pediatric and adult heart specialists throughout the healthcare system
- Family support groups
- Ongoing communication with your child’s PCP
- Seamless transition of care from before birth throughout childhood and adolescence, and into our adult heart program
We offer advanced tests to diagnose heart problems in children of all ages.
If your child has a heart condition, we offer:
- Medical management
- Heart imaging: Echocardiogram, CT, MRI
- Heart surgery
- Heart support devices, including ECMO
- Minimally invasive catheter-based heart procedures
Our fetal cardiologists diagnose and manage heart conditions during pregnancy before the baby is born, such as congenital heart disease and heart rhythm problems. We also screen mothers who have health conditions that increase the risk of their baby having a heart condition.
Our board-certified pediatric cardiologists have advanced subspecialty training in fetal cardiology and heart imaging. This expertise allows us to provide continued care and guidance before and after birth.
When needed, our fetal heart specialists work closely with experts at our Comprehensive Fetal Care Program to meet all your unborn baby’s health needs.
We offer:
- Inpatient care for children receiving heart care in our hospitals or emergency rooms
- Outpatient care for children with heart disease and suspected heart problems
- Pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) for children recovering from heart procedures
- Region’s largest, most advanced neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) for newborns
- Telehealth appointments and virtual visits
Pediatric cardiologists and medical geneticists at our Mass General Brigham for Children provide distinct services for children and family members who inherit gene changes that cause inherited heart (cardiogenetic) syndromes.
Marfan syndrome, Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, Williams syndrome, and other conditions can affect your child’s heart structure or function. These conditions can cause aortic disease (aortopathy), heart muscle disease (cardiomyopathy), heart rhythm changes (arrhythmia), heart failure, and sudden cardiac arrest.
We provide genetic testing and counseling, as well as age-appropriate education, for your child and family. Your child benefits from coordinated, lifelong heart monitoring and care.
Our team addresses heart disease risk factors, including obesity, high cholesterol (hyperlipidemia), and high blood pressure (hypertension), in children.
Your family receives compassionate support from a team that includes experts in heart and metabolic diseases, nutrition, behavioral psychology, and exercise.
We work with your family to customize lifestyle and dietary plans that lower your child’s future risk of heart disease.
