Language Access Services

Mass General Brigham hospitals offer language access services 24 hours a day, at no cost, to patients and their family members. These services include both translation and interpreter services for families and patients to participate fully in their treatment.

Being able to understand your care plan is key to receiving safe, high-quality care. Our medical interpreters help patients and their families express their needs, questions, and preferences in a culturally sensitive way.

We offer interpreter services at no cost for patients and loved ones who speak a language other than English, or who are Deaf, DeafBlind, or hard of hearing. Our interpreters and assistive technologies help you and your care team communicate effectively and safely throughout your visit.

Please let your care team know about your communication needs before or during your appointment. If you are scheduling a visit, you may also request an interpreter at that time.

Interpreter services

Spoken language interpreters
We have language interpreters who speak more than 300 languages. Our trained interpreters can join your appointment in person or by phone or video connection. To request an interpreter, please tell your care team or mention your communication needs when scheduling a visit.
Interpreters and assistive devices for patients who are Deaf, Deaf/Blind or hard of hearing
Our ASL interpreters help patients who are Deaf, DeafBlind, or hard of hearing. Patients also have access to assistive technologies, including videophones, amplified headsets, and CART (Communication Access Realtime Translation) services. If you need one of these resources, please inform your care team before your visit or at check-in.
