Supporting people with Down syndrome at every age
We are a collaborative, multidisciplinary team serving people with Down syndrome of all ages and their families. We provide evidence-based clinical care, education, and cutting-edge research so that individuals with Down syndrome can reach their full potential. Our passion is to advance health care, research, and education that contribute to a world in which all people with Down syndrome are accepted, celebrated, and have the opportunity to fully realize their potential.
Our team brings together physicians with expertise in Down syndrome and specialists in nutrition, hearing and vision care, mental health, and other areas to provide comprehensive, coordinated care.

Important information about new patient appointments
The Down Syndrome Program is currently at full capacity and is not accepting most new patients. We continue to care for established patients and offer appointments for:
- Newborns with Down syndrome born at Mass General Brigham hospitals
- Infants younger than 1 year who have a Mass General Brigham-affiliated pediatrician
- Expectant parents seeking a prenatal consultation following a Down syndrome diagnosis
Families who do not meet these criteria can join our waitlist or explore our virtual resources and second opinion options.
All patients with Down syndrome who have had an appointment with one of our providers within the past 3 years can continue to be seen within our program. If the patient with Down syndrome is younger than 21, they will be offered a clinical spot in our adult clinic when they reach that age.
If more than three years have passed since your last appointment, you will be considered a new patient and will need to join the waitlist.

To join the waitlist:
- Register the person with Down syndrome as a patient at Mass General Brigham by calling 866-211-6588.
- After registering, call 617-643-8912 to request placement on the waitlist.
Virtual resources and second opinions
We are proud to offer two virtual options to everyone:
- Down Syndrome Clinic to You "DSC2U": DSC2U is an online tool developed by Mass General specialists. It provides personalized health information, recommendations, and resources for caregivers of people with Down syndrome. Families can use this information with the patient's primary care provider.
- Mass General Brigham Second Opinions: Our specialists offer online second opinions for eligible patients. After reviewing a patient's medical information, the team provides a written report with its assessment and recommendations. Availability depends on the patient's location and eligibility.
Our approach to caring for patients with Down syndrome
We offer private consultations for expectant parents who have received a prenatal diagnosis of Down syndrome. During your consultation, you will have an opportunity to meet with a physician, social worker, and self-advocate resource specialist.

The following resources offer information and support as you consider your options and prepare for the future.
- If you're exploring your pregnancy options: Understanding a Down Syndrome Diagnosis provides information about Down syndrome, health considerations, and available resources. The booklet is available online for free.
- If you've decided to continue your pregnancy: Down Syndrome Pregnancy offers free resources, including Diagnosis to Delivery: A Pregnant Mother's Guide to Down Syndrome and Your Loved One Is Having a Baby with Down Syndrome, a guide for family members.
- If you're considering adoption: The National Down Syndrome Adoption Network provides information and support for expectant parents considering adoption.
Our team supports your child's health, growth, and development during the early years. Care may include medical evaluations, nutrition guidance, hearing and vision assessments, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, and feeding support. We coordinate with your child's existing care team.
Families will be educated about Down syndrome and comprehensive supports will be provided for their child’s early needs.
