Kidney Genetics Program
We provide expert evaluation and care for people with kidney diseases caused by inherited or genetic factors. We offer advanced genetic testing, counseling, and personalized treatment planning to help you and your family make informed health decisions.
Helping you understand genetic kidney diseases
We guide patients and families in finding answers to complex kidney conditions. As part of Mass General Brigham Genetics and Genomics and Nephrology, our specialists combine expertise in both fields to diagnose and manage inherited, cystic, and developmental kidney diseases. We explain what your results mean, discuss treatment options, and provide guidance for family members who may also be at risk.
Patients may self refer or be referred by a provider.

Our approach to kidney genetics
Comprehensive testing, collaborative care, and research-driven treatment for people and families affected by inherited kidney diseases.
Testing and counseling
We review your personal and family health history, perform lab or imaging tests as needed, and explain what genetic results mean for you and your family.
Transplant coordination
If you need a transplant, we work with our Kidney Transplant Program to plan your procedure and coordinate dialysis or other care before and after surgery.
Collaborative care
Our nephrologists, genetic counselors, and other specialists partner to interpret test results, share expertise, and connect you to additional care when needed.
Research and innovation
As a PKD Foundation Center of Excellence, we lead research on genetic kidney disease and connect patients with national registries and clinical trials for new treatments.
Related conditions and treatments
We diagnose and manage all forms of inherited, cystic, and developmental kidney diseases. Our team also evaluates family members who may be at risk and offers guidance on genetic testing and prevention.
