Specialized low vision expertise
Low vision affects daily activities such as reading, driving, working, and navigating your surroundings. Vision rehabilitation focuses on helping you adapt to it safely.
At Mass General Brigham, vision rehabilitation care is provided through Mass Eye and Ear and Spaulding Rehabilitation. Our teams work together to deliver coordinated, evidence-based care that addresses both the functional and emotional impact of vision loss.

Our approach to vision care
Our specialists focus exclusively on vision rehabilitation and low vision care. They are nationally and internationally recognized for their work in helping people adapt to vision loss and use assistive technologies effectively.
When appropriate, patients may also have access to emerging tools and devices through clinical research and trials.
We take time to understand how vision loss affects your daily life. Together, we identify goals and develop strategies that fit your comfort level, lifestyle, and preferences.
Your care plan may evolve over time as your needs or vision change.
Our team provides:
- Low vision assessments, counseling, and emotional support
- Training in low vision devices and adaptive techniques
- Optical aids, such as magnifiers, telescopic lenses, prisms, and filters
- Non-optical tools, including large-print materials, audio resources, and specialized lighting
- Support for independent living, including referrals to occupational therapy, low vision programs, and the Mass Commission for the Blind
