Molecular Pathology
Expertise in molecular pathology
Molecular pathology is a specialized field that uses new ways to diagnose and treat diseases by looking at how genes, proteins, and other molecules function. Molecular pathology results are important in the diagnosis and treatment of many diseases.
The Mass General Brigham Molecular Diagnostics Laboratory is one of the oldest and largest academic labs of its kind in the country. We’ve been at the forefront of molecular diagnostics for over 30 years.
Our approach to molecular medicine
We founded our Molecular Diagnostics Laboratory in 1988. Since then, we have been at the forefront of molecular diagnostics, pioneering new technologies and approaches.
Our experts have contributed to key advances, including:
- Developing early analytic methods to detect EGFR mutations in lung cancer
- Identifying EGFR mutations in lung cancer
- Discovering the MYD88 mutation in Waldenström macroglobulinemia
- Launching an enterprise-wide cancer genomics testing program
- Publishing early research on next-generation sequencing in human cancer
