Our approach to stroke rehabilitation care
Our comprehensive stroke care aims to help you work towards regaining your movement and key life functions, no matter where you are in your journey. By addressing every aspect of stroke recovery, our therapies and treatments work to improve:
- Range of motion
- Walking
- Cognitive function such as speech and learning, and
- Essential life skills
Your care team is composed of clinicians experienced in stroke care. These may include:
- Specialized therapists, such as physical and occupational therapists
- Neurologists
- Physiatrists (physical medicine and rehabilitation)
- Mental health and internal medicine specialists
- Nurses with specialized training in neurorehabilitation
As part of your rehabilitation care plan, you have access to the latest treatments and technology in stroke care. These include:
- In-depth evaluation of functional abilities
- Exercise
- Splinting
- Bracing
- Compensatory techniques
- Gait training
- Neurological re-education of movement and tasks
- Advanced medical devices to support movement training
No matter if you’ve just suffered a stroke or are well on your way to recovery, your care team is here to support you at every stage. We offer stroke care in:
- Hospital inpatient settings
- Long-term acute care (LTAC)
- Skilled nursing facilities (SNF)
- Outpatient settings
In addition to the care and education you receive from your Mass General Brigham team, you’ll also have access to other stroke survivor communities and resources to support your mental well-being. These include:

- Peer visitor groups
- Music workshops
