John Fernandez

John Fernandez

President, Mass Eye and Ear 
President, Mass General Brigham Integrated Care

As a senior executive at Mass General Brigham, John Fernandez serves in two key leadership roles. He is President of Mass General Brigham Integrated Care, a Mass General Brigham entity formed in 2019 with a mission to bring lower health care cost closer to where patients live. 

Fernandez is also President of Mass Eye and Ear, a teaching hospital of Harvard Medical School and one of the nation’s largest specialty hospitals, exclusively dedicated to academic research, training, and treatment for conditions that impair vision, hearing, and other disorders of the eyes, ears, nose, throat, head, and neck. Mass Eye and Ear has consistently ranked in the top 10 “Best Hospitals” nationwide by U.S. News and World Report. 

Fernandez is a graduate of the College of Wooster in Wooster, Ohio, and he holds a master's degree in government administration from the University of Pennsylvania. A dedicated member of the Boston health care and business executive community, Fernandez serves as Chairman of the Conference of Boston Teaching Hospitals, is a member of the Boston Public Health Commission, and served on the Suffolk University Board of Trustees until 2021.

Carlos Arellano, MD, MBA

Vice President for Surgical and Imaging Services, Mass General Brigham Integrated Care

As Vice President for Surgical and Imaging Services at Mass General Brigham Integrated Care, Carlos Arellano, MD, MBA, is responsible for operational oversight of the ambulatory surgical centers, procedural areas, peri-op services, radiology, and other support services for all Integrated Care sites. 

Prior to joining Mass General Brigham Integrated Care in 2021, Dr. Arellano worked for nine years at Boston Medical Center (BMC), where he held a series of operational roles, the latest being Senior Administrative Director of Radiology, Radiation Oncology, Otolaryngology, and Surgical Services. During his time at BMC, Dr. Arellano focused on projects related to growth, operational efficiency, space design, and patient experience. He was also heavily involved in the COVID-19 response, leading the teams managing the PPE strategy, standing up the testing sites, and setting up the vaccine administration sites. 

Dr. Arellano received his MD from Universidad Anahuac in Mexico City and his MBA from Boston University in Massachusetts. 

Lindsay Gainer, RN, MSN

Vice President of Operations Development, Mass General Brigham Integrated Care

As Vice President of Operations Development for Mass General Brigham Integrated Care, Lindsay Gainer, RN, MSN, plays a critical role in the overall start up, strategic development, and management of a new, innovative ambulatory strategy for Mass General Brigham.

Gainer has more than 20 years of experience in health care and has been a nurse leader for most of her career. Most recently, she served as the Senior Executive Director of Innovation for North Shore Medical Center and North Shore Physicians Group in Salem, Massachusetts, the second largest community hospital in Massachusetts, and one of the largest, community-based, multispecialty physician groups in the state. 

Gainer received her BS in Nursing and her MS in Nursing and Health Care Systems from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Lindsay was previously a Clinical Assistant Professor at UNC-Chapel Hill and Nurse Manager of the Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplant Unit at Boston Children’s Hospital. Gainer is active in multiple professional organizations and has served on the Board of Directors of the North Carolina Nurses Association and the Massachusetts Association of Registered Nurses.

Marcia Neiberg

Vice President, Start-up and Planning, Interim Vice President, Finance, Mass General Brigham Integrated Care 

As Vice President of Planning and Finance for Integrated Care, Marcia Neiberg is responsible for ensuring the overall startup of and ongoing planning and implementation for ambulatory sites.  In addition to these responsibilities, Neiberg also oversees all aspects of finance for Integrated Care.

Neiberg has more than 20 years of experience in health care, spending much of her career in various strategy and finance roles. Prior to this role, Neiberg served as the Director of Patient Affordability and Decision Support at Mass General Brigham.  

Neiberg received her BA in English from The George Washington University and her MBA from the Heller School for Social Policy at Brandeis University.

Kathy G. Niknejad, MD

Chief Medical Officer, Mass General Brigham Integrated Care   

As CMO, Kathy Niknejad, MD, plays a critical role in setting the strategy for all clinical operations at Integrated Care. Dr. Niknejad has partnered closely with Mass General Brigham academic medical centers, specialty hospitals, community hospitals, and physician organizations to ensure high-quality health care and strategic alignment between the entities. She is responsible for clinical, rehabilitation, and pharmacy service leaders. She plays a critical role in physician recruitment and oversees quality, safety, and patient experience for Mass General Brigham Integrated Care sites. In collaboration with the senior leadership team, she is shaping the digital and eCare strategy, design, and implementation for Mass General Brigham Integrated Care. 

Dr. Niknejad is an instructor of surgery at Harvard Medical School and a practicing urologist. She is passionate about patient-centered care. She has leadership experience in ambulatory/multispecialty organizations and brought her insight and experience to Mass General Brigham Integrated Care. She practiced at Atrius Health/Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates and served on their Board of Trustees. During her career, she has held multiple leadership roles, including Medical Director of Surgical Specialties, Chief of Urology, and General Surgery.  

Dr. Niknejad is an assistant professor of surgery at Harvard Medical School and a specialist in Urology at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital. 

She received her MD from Harvard Medical School and completed her residency at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. 

Sandeep Green Vaswani, MBA

Vice President of Real Estate and Innovation, Mass General Brigham Integrated Care

As Vice President of Real Estate and Innovation at Mass General Brigham Integrated Care, Sandeep Green Vaswani, MBA, oversees facility design, construction, and operations; IT/IS and digital health operations and innovation; and virtual urgent care operations.

Previously, Vaswani helped start and build the Institute for Healthcare Optimization (IHO), where he was senior vice president overseeing operations design and patient flow optimization projects in the US, UK, and Canada. Prior to IHO, Vaswani served as director of analysis and planning at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, where he established the department and oversaw a variety of strategy and business planning initiatives. His other experiences include strategy consulting, investment banking, and new product development. 

Vaswani has an undergraduate degree in electronics engineering from Bombay University and an MBA from the Stern School of Business at New York University. He serves as Trustee and Treasurer for the Pro Arte Chamber Orchestra of Boston.
