Klibanski will help coordinate unified efforts to strengthen local healthcare access and innovation for Massachusetts patients, caregivers, and communities.
Anne Klibanski, MD, President and CEO of Mass General Brigham, has been elected as the 85th Chair of the Massachusetts Health & Hospital Association (MHA) Board of Trustees. MHA serves as the unified voice for hospitals and health systems in the Commonwealth. Klibanski was elected as the association’s chair during its annual meeting on January 29, 2026.
As MHA marks its 90th anniversary, its board will remain focused on furthering Massachusetts’ legacy as a global healthcare innovator. Through joint initiatives, cross-sector partnerships, and informed public policy, hospitals and health systems will pursue improvements that make care more accessible and cost-effective for patients—all while empowering the mission of dedicated healthcare professionals and reinforcing the sector’s critical role as an economic driver for communities.
“Healthcare is undergoing profound change, and meeting this moment requires partnership, clarity of purpose, and a commitment to the patients and communities we serve,” said Klibanski. “I’m honored to step into the role of MHA Board Chair and to represent Mass General Brigham in this work. The integration of our system, bringing together exceptional clinicians and teams across MGB’s hospitals, demonstrates what aligned, patient-centered care can achieve. Together with MHA and our colleagues statewide, we will advance research, innovation, and high-quality care for all Massachusetts residents.”
Klibanski brings extensive leadership experience and a strong commitment to patient-centered innovation to MHA’s Board of Trustees. As President and Chief Executive Officer of Mass General Brigham since 2019, she has led a world-renowned healthcare system which includes Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Massachusetts General Hospital, Mass Eye and Ear, McLean, Spaulding Rehabilitation, seven community hospitals, a health insurance company, physician networks, community health centers, home- based care, and long-term care services. As the largest private employer in Massachusetts with 82,000 employees and annual revenue of $23 billion, the non-profit healthcare system is the nation’s leading recipient of National Institutes of Health funding and is a principal teaching affiliate of Harvard Medical School. Klibanski has led clinical integration of services across MGB, is responsible for the development of new digital platforms to achieve digital care, and has committed significant resources to community health, with a particular investment in mental health programs. A nationally recognized physician and scientist, she previously served as the system’s Chief Academic Officer and holds a professorship at Harvard Medical School.
In the new year, MHA members will continue to address serious and persistent healthcare challenges with a united front. The board will help steer strategies and solutions that help maintain care services, protect safety net care, and alleviate strains on workers. MHA’s efforts to stabilize the healthcare system will rely on close collaboration with local leaders and its extended network of partners.
“Dr. Klibanski’s leadership exemplifies the profound promise of healthcare for today’s world—from lifesaving research breakthroughs to care that extends far beyond hospital walls,” said MHA President and CEO Steve Walsh. “We are honored that she will serve as MHA’s 2026 board chair as our members take on an ambitious agenda to build a more innovative, resilient system for local patients and healthcare workers.”
