Mass General Brigham Names Susan Szulewski, MD, MBA, as President and Chief Operating Officer of McLean Hospital

Mass General Brigham, today announced the appointment of Susan Szulewski, MD, MBA, as president and chief operating officer (PCOO) of McLean Hospital, effective November 1, 2025. Dr. Szulewski will also continue in her role as vice president of clinical operations for Mass General Brigham Behavioral and Mental Health.

In her new role, Dr. Szulewski will oversee McLean’s planning and operations while working in close partnership with Maurizio Fava, MD, who will become chair of Psychiatry for Mass General Brigham.

“Dr. Szulewski is an exceptional leader with an ability to lead across clinical, operational, and strategic priorities,” said Ron M. Walls, MD, chief operating officer for Mass General Brigham. “She is the right person to steward McLean’s legacy while driving innovation and transformation. Under her leadership, I am confident McLean will continue to deliver compassionate care, advance scientific discovery, and provide the highest quality training to the next generation of caregivers.”

Dr. Szulewski most recently served as chief medical officer at McLean Hospital, where she focused on improving patient access and outcomes through a results-oriented, quality-driven approach. Since joining McLean in 2015, she has demonstrated a deep commitment to the hospital’s mission and to advancing behavioral health across the system.

“I am honored to serve as McLean’s next president and chief operating officer,” said Dr. Szulewski. “I look forward to working with my colleagues across McLean and Mass General Brigham to advance our shared mission of improving the lives of people and families affected by psychiatric illness.”

Dr. Szulewski earned her medical degree from the University of Medical Sciences in Poznan, Poland, completed her psychiatry residency at the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University, and received her MBA in healthcare management from the Heller School at Brandeis University.

She succeeds Scott Rauch, MD, who served as McLean’s President and Psychiatrist-in-Chief, as well as Chair of Mass General Brigham Behavioral and Mental Health since 2006.
