Mass General Brigham Hospitals Awarded ‘A’ Hospital Safety Grade from Leapfrog Group

Five hospitals within the Mass General Brigham healthcare system received an “A” safety grade rating for the fall of 2022, a designation awarded by the Leapfrog Group, an independent national watchdog organization. Massachusetts General Hospital, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Newton-Wellesley Hospital, Cooley Dickinson Hospital, and Wentworth-Douglass Hospital were given this national distinction, which recognizes achievements in protecting patients from preventable harm in the hospital.

“It is an honor to have our hospitals recognized with an ‘A’ grade by Leapfrog. As a system we are committed to offering high quality care at every stage of the health journey,” said Tom Sequist, MD, MPH, Chief Medical Officer at Mass General Brigham. “This achievement is a credit to the extraordinary teams of dedicated caregivers and support staff at our hospitals and their relentless focus on the well-being and safety of our patients and their families.”

The Leapfrog Group is an independent national watchdog organization with a 10-year history of assigning letter grades to general hospitals, based on the ability to prevent medical errors and harm to patients. The grading system is peer-reviewed, fully transparent, and free to the public. Hospital Safety Grade results are based on more than 30 national performance measures and are updated each fall and spring.
