Tampa General Hospital and Mass General Brigham Launch Joint Ambulatory Care Network on Florida’s East Coast

8 minute read

Partnership expands access to high-quality primary, specialty and surgical care throughout Martin, St. Lucie and Palm Beach counties

Tampa General Hospital (TGH) and Boston-based Mass General Brigham today announced a new joint venture creating a coordinated ambulatory network serving Florida’s East Coast and expanding access to high-quality outpatient services – including primary care, specialty care, advanced imaging, oncology and outpatient surgical procedures.

The partnership responds to rising demand for integrated, patient-centered care in Martin, St. Lucie and Palm Beach counties, as well as rapid population growth – with more than two million residents – while also building on a proven track record of collaboration between TGH and Mass General Brigham. Combining TGH’s deep roots in Florida with Mass General Brigham’s national leadership in academic medicine brings together complementary strengths to deliver exceptional patient care through this new ambulatory network.

"As one of the state’s leading academic health systems, Tampa General is committed to meeting the needs of Floridians by expanding access to world-class care,” said John Couris, president and CEO of Florida Health Sciences Center | Tampa General Hospital. “With this new ambulatory network, we are building on our strong foundation in Florida to ensure patients along the East Coast have seamless access to the highest-quality outpatient services. This partnership with one of the nation’s top academic health systems reflects our vision to lead in delivering innovative, patient-centered care across the state, while strengthening the health of our communities today and for generations to come."

“This collaboration brings together two leading academic health systems with a shared commitment to clinical excellence and innovation,” said Anne Klibanski, MD, CEO of Mass General Brigham. “By creating a unified ambulatory network, we can broaden access to trusted physicians and advanced outpatient services, improve health outcomes, and deliver care that is more coordinated and patient-focused.”

The new joint venture begins with a new radiation oncology center, scheduled to open later this year in Palm Beach Gardens, offering a new option for world-class cancer care to Floridians throughout Palm Beach County. In addition, TGH and Mass General Brigham will work to expand the Tampa General Physicians Network, currently spanning 20 locations, including providing advanced training initiatives and collaborative clinical research opportunities.

“Our work with Tampa General Hospital reflects our shared commitment to clinical excellence and innovation,” said David F. M. Brown, MD, President, Academic Medical Centers, Mass General Brigham. “Together, we are building a model for ambulatory care that brings together advanced research, innovative therapies, and streamlined patient services to raise the standard for accessible, high-quality care.”

“Tampa General and Mass General Brigham are both leaders in academic medicine, and that shared foundation is what makes this collaboration so powerful,” said Abraham Schwarzberg, MD, executive vice president, chief of oncology and co-vice president of Clinical and Translational Research, TGH | USF Office of Clinical Research. “By combining our complementary expertise, we are building a network that not only expands access but also elevates the quality of care, ensuring patients benefit from the most advanced therapies, research-driven innovation, and coordinated services.”

Today’s announcement is the latest in a series of successful projects in which TGH and Mass General Brigham have increased access to care on the west coast of Florida over the past several years, including:

  • Home Base at Tampa General Hospital: In 2021, TGH and Mass General Brigham launched a joint Home Base Program for Veterans and families, based on Mass General Brigham’s original model at Massachusetts General Hospital. The program, housed at TGH, includes the Warrior Health and Fitness Program. In 2023, Mass General Brigham and TGH expanded services for veterans with traumatic brain injuries. Later this year, the program will cover behavioral health support for all patients, both for Home Base attendees and patients within TGH as a whole.
  • Bone Marrow Transplant and Cell Therapy Advisory: In 2023, Mass General Brigham helped TGH build a robust and clinically meaningful bone marrow transplant program, including advising on clinical protocols and staffing. In 2025, the program achieved FACT accreditation, a peer-reviewed certification that verifies high standards for cellular therapies. TGH earned accreditation in 2025, ensuring rigorous quality and patient care.
  • Radiation Oncology: Opening later this year, TGH and Mass General Brigham's joint venture in Palm Beach Gardens will launch a new radiation oncology center with advanced technology and improved patient care. The collaboration offers integrated, patient-focused treatment tailored to each individual's needs throughout their cancer care journey.
