Mass General Brigham Researchers Named to Clarivate’s 2023 Highly Cited Researchers List

4 minute read

More than 90 researchers from across the Mass General Brigham healthcare system have been named to the annual Highly Cited Researchers™ 2023 list from Clarivate. The team at Clarivate uses both qualitative and quantitative statistics to determine which individuals from across the globe have demonstrated significant and broad influence in their field(s) of research.

Each researcher selected has authored multiple Highly Cited Papers™ which rank in the top 1% by citations for their field(s) and publication year in the Web of Science over the past decade. The methodology that determines the “who’s who” of influential researchers draws on the data and analysis performed by bibliometric experts and data scientists at the Institute for Scientific Information™ at Clarivate.

Mass General Brigham brings together 16 member institutions, including academic medical centers, top-tier specialty hospitals, community hospitals, a rehabilitation network and more. Research that spans more than one of these entities is more than the sum of its parts, helping to provide insights and unique perspectives from multiple settings and areas of expertise. In this year’s list, researchers from multiple disciplines across Mass General Brigham are included, demonstrating the highly specialized interdisciplinary work taking place. Of the world’s population of scientists and social scientists, Highly Cited Researchers are only 1 in 1,000.

“Research is at the center of our culture at Mass General Brigham,” said Paul Anderson MD, PhD, chief academic officer for Mass General Brigham. “We are tremendously proud of our research community, and that many of our researchers are leaders in their fields, working together to solve some of the world's most complex medical problems.”
