Mass General Brigham Community Physicians offer care across many different specialties. Click each service area below to learn more and see where they are available.

Primary care services

Primary care services provide routine and preventative care through regular checkups and immunizations. Primary care practitioners administer immunizations, treat acute illnesses and mild infectious diseases, and help coordinate specialists for the treatment of chronic illness. Primary care can be divided into adult primary care and pediatric primary care, and fields of primary care include internal medicine, pediatrics, and family medicine.

Our doctors provide primary care services for adult patients, diagnosing and treating a variety of internal diseases. Services and treatments include physical exams, immunizations, and treatments and management for acute and chronic conditions. In addition to in-office visits, we also offer telemedicine appointments.

Pediatric care focuses on primary care for children, usually until their 18th birthday. Pediatricians provide regular checkups, measuring developmental milestones as children grow, and services for children with unique health needs. Treatment plans may include immunizations, patient and parent education, and referrals to specialists based on the unique needs of the children and their families.

Our experienced team of family doctors provides care to individual patients and whole families, including infants, children, teens, adults, and seniors. Services and treatments include physical exams, immunizations, and treatment and management of acute and chronic conditions. In addition to in-office visits, we also offer telemedicine appointments.

Diagnostic testing and imaging

Diagnostic Services include imaging and lab testing to facilitate the diagnosis of a disease or condition. Our facilities are equipped with on-site laboratories and imaging centers, with procedures performed by board-certified practitioners.

Imaging uses specialized machines to provide clinicians with a look inside the body to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases and conditions. Our imaging services include X-ray, CT, ultrasound, bone densitometry, and nuclear imaging, allowing us to accommodate a wide variety of clinical needs.

Locations: Medford, Westwood

Phlebotomy involves drawing blood from a vein, usually in your arm, to collect blood for the purposes of screening and analysis. Our phlebotomists are trained to perform these procedures efficiently and with minimal pain.

Pathology involves the analysis of blood, tissue, and other samples and how they may indicate the presence or progression of a disease or condition. Our pathologists analyze a wide range of diagnostic tests, from routine bloodwork to specialized ordered tests. The test results are then used to inform the proper intervention to treat and monitor disease.

The Mass General Brigham Community Physicians Bridge Clinic in Haverhill provides rapid access to treatment for addiction and substance use disorders. Services are available for comprehensive addiction medicine, infectious disease, and sexual health services.

Allergists specialize in the treatment of patients with various allergies and related conditions. Our allergists perform diagnostic testing to determine which allergies you might have, then collaborate with your primary care doctor to develop a treatment plan. Treatments may include medications, education on how to avoid allergens and allergy triggers, and immunotherapy for those with more serious allergies.

Our clinicians provide behavioral health services for patients with primary psychiatric illnesses or psychiatric conditions related to other medical problems. They collaborate with primary care and specialist physicians for a multidisciplinary approach. Treatment plans may include individual therapeutic support, marriage and family counseling, psychiatric medication management and substance abuse disorder treatment.

Cardiology involves the diagnosis and treatment of heart and blood vessel disorders. Common conditions that cardiologists help address include congenital heart defects, coronary artery disease, cardiac arrhythmias and heart failure. Treatment plans may involve risk factor education, genetic testing, medication, surgery and minimally invasive procedures like catheterizations.

Dermatology services offer specialized treatment for conditions of the skin, hair, and nails. For disorders like skin cancers, infections, acne, eczema, and psoriasis, our dermatologists provide personalized treatment plans for each patient. These plans may include medication, laser treatments, tissue biopsies, and surgical interventions. Some locations also offer cosmetic dermatology treatments.

Diabetes care specializes in treating patients with Type I or Type II diabetes and managing the disease and associated health conditions (e.g., nerve damage, high blood glucose levels, heart disease). By combining education with specialist care, as needed, our diabetes care team works together with you and your primary care clinician to manage the symptoms and impact of diabetes on your daily life.

Endocrinology specializes in the treatment of hormonal disorders. Working with a patient’s primary care doctor, our endocrinologists evaluate and treat patients with common or more complex hormonal conditions, including: adrenal disorders, calcium and mineral metabolic disorders, diabetes, hirsutism hyperparathyroidism, pituitary disorders, polycystic ovary syndrome, and thyroid disorders.

Endoscopy care involves the diagnosis and treatment of gastrointestinal (GI) tract diseases. Our clinicians diagnose and treat a variety of GI conditions and diseases such as colorectal cancer, Crohn’s disease, acid reflux disease, and peptic ulcer disease. Diagnosis and treatment plans can include upper endoscopies, colonoscopies, capsule endoscopies, and esophageal dilation.

Gastroenterology provides care for patients with digestive tract disorders involving the esophagus, stomach, small and large intestine, liver, gallbladder, pancreas, and colon. Our practitioners provide diagnosis and treatment services for both short- and long-term conditions ranging from food poisoning, to cancers, to irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). Services and treatments can include diagnostic tests, medication, patient education on proper nutrition and lifestyle habits, and endoscopic and other procedures.

General Surgery is a sub-specialty that focuses on surgical treatment of the colon, breasts, gastrointestinal (GI) tract, endocrine system, pancreas, liver and rectum. The Westwood campus specializes in GI tract surgery, offering treatments for hernias.

Hepatology focuses on treating and managing diseases of the liver, gall bladder, pancreas, and associated structures. Our hepatologists are specialists that work with your primary care doctor to develop a personalized treatment plan for conditions like hepatitis, cirrhosis, and alcoholic liver disease.

Common infections may be treated by your primary care doctor. However, for more complicated situations (e.g., bone infections, tuberculosis, undiagnosed fevers) and/or when travel is involved, you may be referred to an infectious disease doctor who specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of these diseases. Our practitioners will work with your primary care doctor to develop a personalized treatment plan, which may include diagnostic tests, medications, and patient education to reduce the risks of contracting and spreading infectious diseases.

Nephrology specializes in the treatment of diseases affecting the kidneys. Our nephrologists work with your primary care doctor to determine the best course of action to treat and manage your chronic kidney condition or disease and preserve kidney function.

Neurologists and neurosurgeons specialize in diseases and conditions affecting the brain and nervous system. Our neurology practitioners provide diagnosis and treatment for a wide spectrum of conditions, including migraines, neuromuscular conditions, seizures (and related disorders), and strokes. Our neurosurgeons provide patient-focused care for many brain and spinal conditions, including brain tumors, stroke, herniated discs, spinal stenosis, and spinal injury/trauma.

Obstetrics and gynecology specializes in the care of people with uteruses and pregnant persons. Our OB/GYN team has expertise in a variety of areas, including general gynecology, surgery, menopause, pregnancy planning and management, and contraception. Treatments and services offered include diagnostic and screening tests (e.g., pap smears), ultrasound, non-stress testing for fetal monitoring, and colposcopies for evaluation of abnormal pap smears.

Orthopedics and physiatry care focus on conditions affecting bones, joints, muscles, tendons, and ligaments, which negatively impact the body’s ability to move. Our clinicians offer a variety of services to address conditions such as arthritis, back pain, joint disorders, and more. Treatment focuses on personalized, non-surgical interventions to help restore joint and muscle function and improve quality of life.

Pulmonology services provide diagnostic and treatment services for the lungs and airways. Pulmonologists offer specialized care for genetic diseases such as cystic fibrosis, chronic asthma, tumors, and lung failure requiring lung transplantation. Treatments can include medications like inhalers, oxygen therapy, support to quit smoking, and bronchoscopy procedures.

Rheumatology services specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of inflammatory and autoimmune diseases that can affect many areas of the body, including the musculoskeletal system, blood vessels and skin. Rheumatologists provide care for conditions like rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, scleroderma, connective tissue diseases and lupus. Treatment plans may include anti-inflammatory diet changes, oral or topical medications and assistive devices.

Vascular surgery is a surgical specialty that uses surgical interventions to address conditions affecting the arteries, veins, and lymphatic system. Procedures offered include stent insertions, bypass surgery, and blood vessel repair.
