Home care is one of the fastest growing fields in the U.S. economy. A career in home health care is transferable to anywhere in the country. Additionally, those who work in the home health care field enjoy the satisfaction of one-to-one care in the patient’s home environment, excellent benefits, and competitive salaries. The home health care industry is supportive of continuing education and professional advancement.
Many types of positions are available at Mass General Brigham Home Care. Some positions, such as nurses, social workers, certified home health aides, physical therapists/physical therapy assistants, occupational therapists/certified occupational therapy assistants, speech-language pathologists and nutritionists, work directly with patients daily. Others work behind the scenes and have less direct contact with patients but are instrumental in our success. These included clinical managers, quality improvement clinicians, staff educators and other administrative staff supporting our referral, scheduling and financial services.
The educational requirements vary depending on the career you choose. Some careers require a bachelor’s degree, whereas others require an associate degree. Still others require certification or completion of a series of classes that is aligned with a national standard. Most careers in health care offer career ladders, or opportunities for advancement. For certain positions, acquiring a master’s degree or a doctorate is recommended or required to advance.
Most positions in health care that involve direct patient care require a license or certification. This license or certification is usually obtained after passing a state or national test. Some positions that are behind the scenes also require a license or certification. However, this is not true for all positions.
