Boston, MA – Five Mass General Brigham hospitals, Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH), Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH), McLean, Mass Eye and Ear, and Spaulding Rehabilitation were once again named among the top hospitals in the nation by U.S. News & World Report and each also earned high marks in multiple clinical specialties.

The rankings highlight positive momentum as Mass General Brigham continues to unite its capabilities. Of particular note, the system’s academic medical centers were both ranked among the top five for cancer care in the country.

MGH and BWH are again on the U.S. News “Best Hospitals” honor roll while McLean Hospital was named #2 in the nation for Psychiatry. Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital tied for the #2 spot for Rehabilitation, and Mass Eye and Ear once again ranked #4 for Ophthalmology and moved up one spot to #5 for Otolaryngology (ear, nose, and throat).

For a fourth consecutive year, BWH earned the top honor in Obstetrics & Gynecology (OBGYN), ranking #1 in the nation, while MGH earned the top spot in Psychiatry, ranking #1 for a second consecutive year. In total, 13 specialties across MGH and BWH were recognized in the top 10 nationally.

  • BWH: #1 Obstetrics and Gynecology, #3 in Diabetes and Endocrinology, #3 Cancer (with Dana-Farber Cancer Institute), #4 Rheumatology.

This year rankings come as Mass General Brigham is making strides in quality through its first-ever unified patient care strategy, For Every Patient, which is driving significant reductions in observed inpatient mortality. They also point to significant opportunity as the system unites its academic departments and builds disease-focused institutes in Cancer, Heart and Vascular, and Neuroscience.

“At Mass General Brigham, we are deeply committed to delivering high quality care for every patient who needs us,” said Anne Klibanski, MD, president and CEO, Mass General Brigham. “This year’s rankings, combined with the progress we are seeing in key quality metrics, demonstrate an exciting opportunity to further elevate patient care as we become a truly integrated system of care. We are deeply grateful to our staff who are the heart of our healthcare system and whose devotion to our patients earned these recognitions and inspires us each day.”
