Physical Health Resources

Maintaining your physical health during your training is as important as your mental health and well-being. Learn how to find a primary care provider and maintain your physical health during medical training with these resources.

Find a primary care provider (PCP)

The resources in this section are for residents, clinical fellows, and residency and fellowship program directors and coordinators.

The Brigham Primary Care Department is available to accommodate clinical fellows and residents interested in establishing care with a PCP.

  • If you don’t have a strong preference for a specific provider, you can go on to the next step. If you would like to choose a specific PCP, please review the Find a Mass General Brigham provider tool to choose your first (and second) choices for a provider.
  • Please note, appointment availability varies and is sometimes limited, depending upon the provider. Depending upon the PCP, access ranges from weeks to 6+ months until the next new patient appointment so it is recommended to reach out as early as possible to establish care.
  • Please call the Patient Service Center to register and have them create a chart for you if you don't already have one. You can contact them at 866-489-4056 Monday-Friday 7:30 a.m.-8:30 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 9:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. They will ask for your insurance information if available. If you do not yet have that information, it will need to be added before your first visit.

Complete this survey to express clinic and provider preferences.

With this information, the new patient coordinators will assign you a PCP and reach out to you to assist in scheduling your first appointment.

If you have any questions or need additional assistance you can reach us at 617-582-5240 or email bwhpcnewpatient@bwh.harvard.edu.

For Mass General residents and clinical fellows seeking to establish a primary care physician, please contact Mass General Central Access Scheduling at 800-711-4644. The scheduling coordinators will assist in assigning a PCP and scheduling a new patient appointment based on availability.

You will need to identify yourself as a resident or fellow and clinical location, or you may be told there are no PCP availabilities.

Please note that there is very little availability on campus and PCP assignments may be in any one of the primary care practices throughout the Mass General community.

Patient Gateway

Please sign up for Patient Gateway as this is the quickest and most efficient way to communicate with our Primary Care practices. Patient Gateway allows you to send secure communication to our practices, to request prescription refills, insurance referrals, and to schedule your annual visits.

Mental health

Clinical fellows and residents are also encouraged to access mental health support and services for their well-being.
