The Mass General Brigham Innovation Fellows Program is a unique program, providing a rare opportunity to be immersed in collaborative, team-based projects in an industry setting. Fellows receive direct mentorship from top industry executives and senior leadership at world-renowned hospitals, as well as from proprietary online educational programs.

Candidate eligibility

Fellow candidates must review the full list of eligibility criteria to ensure all requirements are met and submit a conflicts-of-interest (COI) checklist prior to being selected for a fellows' project.

Fellow candidates must meet the following minimum qualifications to apply: 

  • Must be an active employee in the Mass General Brigham system 
  • Possess MD, PhD, or a joint degree 
  • MDs must have completed their residency but cannot participate as an Innovation Fellow concurrent with the clinical or research portion of a Graduate Medical Education (GME) fellowship program (regardless of whether the fellowship is ACGME-accredited). [GME fellowships, as approved by the Mass General Brigham Education Committee, are those listed on the GME website]
  • PhDs must have more than two years of post-doc training 
  • Faculty are eligible but are limited to no more than 40% effort
  • Available for 20%–100% effort* 
  • Duration between 6–24 months as required per project* 
  • Candidates may NOT participate concurrently in a clinical trial or clinical research sponsored by the same industry host for which candidate is considering becoming a fellow. 

 *Percent effort and duration of projects vary per industry host, but can be flexible and must be agreed upon by fellow and host.

Mass General Brigham Innovation is currently accepting applications for Innovation Fellows from Mass General Brigham hospitals for a limited number of opportunities in pharma companies.

Please submit the completed application and recent CV in PDF format to: innovationfellows@mgb.org. 

PDF file names should follow the below format: 

  • Application Form: Last name underscore institution underscore department (Last Name_XXX_XXXXXX)
  • CV: Last name underscore CV (Last Name_CV)
  • Institution set as BWH, MGH, or McL

Applications will be treated as confidential documents.

Process

  • Click on the button for “Open Outbound Fellow Project Opportunities”. If you have an interest in the opportunity/ies listed, and you meet any stated minimum requirements, please send an email to innovationfellows@mgb.org clearly stating your name, title of the opportunity of interest, and a brief explanation of your interest. 
  • If there are no open opportunities of interest upon first look, please check back regularly and send an email when an opportunity arises that is of interest.

Step 3

  • The fellows program manager will follow up with applicants to confirm receipt of application and eligibility requirements, and if applicable, receipt of email expressing interest in an open fellow project opportunity 
  • Program selection committee reviews candidate applications for open opportunities

  • Industry host reviews selected candidate's application and CV provided to industry host for review
  • Industry host may conduct in-person meetings, phone screens, or other means to ensure candidate fit
  • Selected candidate will start fellow project at designated host site at a mutually agreed upon time 
  • Fellows have the option to be assigned to a Mass General Brigham mentor

Step 6

  • Fellow, mentor, and fellow program manager will participate in an off-boarding process with Mass General Brigham Innovation staff prior to starting fellow's project

The Innovation Fellows Program is a skills and career development program designed specifically for active Mass General Brigham employees only. Please do not share the contents of the fellow projects with external individuals.
